How Kind Words and Small Moments Can Make a Day

This is the first post of mine on Quora. I started journaling almost every day in 2023, seeking inspiration with bullet journal designs on Pinterest. Recently, I discovered Quora and find it perfect for amateur writers like me and fellow readers as well. It's the ideal platform to share my words and thoughts with the world, rather than just for myself. From the age of 19, I've been striving to build my inner world through words, and today, I am questioning my journey.

Reflections on Life and Love

Thanks to Instagram, I came across a couple - okdong_fit - who are 56 and 61, with a son and a daughter. Realizing their lives sparked some contemplation, I paused and pondered about fulfilling life and what I need to strive for at this age. The scenario I imagine for myself includes waking up with my life partner, doing some stretching or going for a walk or cycling, sending love messages to my son and daughter, dressing well, and running a business together.

At the end of the day, we could go to the market, prepare dinner, cook together with a light playlist, and read books before bed. This dream journey resonates deeply with me, and I find it inspiring to set such goals for my future.

Kind Words and Small Moments

One small moment that truly made my day is when the nurse at my doctor's office complimented my flannel shirt. It was a unique cut that caught her attention, and her kind words brought a smile to my face.

Another memorable day involved baking a cake, a long time after the last time I had attempted it. Everyone who tasted it praised the delicious taste, and it felt like a fulfilling achievement.

A Slightly Different Encounter

A day that truly made my day, however, was an encounter with a woman at the library. She was leaning towards her late twenties, engaging and adorable. We struck up a conversation, and she expressed interest in getting lunch with me. Although I politely declined her offer and explained my reasons - that I was seeing someone and a faithful man - her age difference and my current age of 59 added genuine humor to the situation. Her offer was flattering and made my day, even if she was a bit peeved when I turned her down. I told her, 'Had' made my day, and chuckled about it. It reminded me that no matter the age, one can still cherish and enjoy the small moments of life that come their way.

Final Thoughts

These moments remind me that kindness and simple gestures can significantly impact a day. Whether through a compliment, a delicious baked good, or a conversation that sparks joy, small moments are the daily fuel that keep us going.
