The Journey into Kpop: My First Encounter
My introduction to Kpop was a bit unconventional, starting with a title I couldn't understand: Boy With Luv. This first encounter left me unimpressed, as the video’s vibrant colors and unusual hairstyles didn't hold my interest. However, months later, a Black Swan video would change everything. This unexpected journey from confusion to an immersive experience is narrated here, capturing how a KDrama fan stumbled into Kpop and has remained a devout member of the fandom.
The Unhappy Introduction to Kpop
It all started in eighth grade when my benchmate introduced me to a group of boys known as 'The Seven.' I was not a Kpop fan at the time, but one day, my friend's animated discussion piqued my curiosity. They wrote the names of the boys in our blackboard, discussing their attributes. Inevitably, I was cornered and had to listen to their enthusiasm. That night, while browsing YouTube, I stumbled upon Boys with Luv, the first MV I'd ever watched. The colorful visuals and unique presentation weren't enough to entice me; I couldn't find what I was looking for and the video ended.
The Transformation from Boredom to Admiration
Months later, boredom struck again, and this time I found myself scrolling through YouTube. That's when I came across a video titled Black Swan. Initially puzzled, I clicked out of curiosity. This video was a game changer. The synchronized dance routines, the elaborate visuals, and beautiful vocals struck a chord with me. I was mesmerized by the perfection of it all. The next day, I watched more videos, and the BTS Dynamite MV was one of them. My fascination with Kpop grew exponentially, and my life as a devoted army began.
The Role of Kpop in Supporting Mental Health
Kpop had a profound impact on my life, helping me through tough times. I was going through difficult periods, and the seven boys from BTS and the four girls from Black Swan had a profound effect on me. Their presence made my life more bearable, offering solace and comfort when I needed it the most. Their performances helped me laugh and take life's challenges more easily. Although they were oblivious to my existence, their music made me feel that I belonged, forever changing my life.
As my love for Kpop deepened, I discovered more groups and songs that resonated with me. The journey from my initial unimpressed encounter to becoming a fan of many Kpop groups is a testament to the powerful impact music can have on one's life. The transformation I experienced illustrated the universal appeal of Kpop and its potential to bring joy, relief, and a sense of belonging during the darkest moments.
